The Preserving Power of God’s Truth

“Let your loving kindness and your truth continually preserve me.” Psalm 40.11b

I am privileged to travel extensively, preaching the gospel. I speak to all kinds of people, but I especially love speaking to young people. Their hearts are pliable and soft and are searching for the truth.

David says that God’s truth continually preserves him, clearly showing him what is right and what is wrong. We need to speak the truth, especially to our young people. We must warn them that sexual relationships outside marriage are fornication and sinful in God’s sight, pornography is from the devil, sleeping with a partner of the same sex is an abomination to God, and rebellion – disobeying their parents and superiors – is like witchcraft.

Are you telling your young people the truth? Or are you just going with the flow because you are afraid of upsetting the status quo? We need to draw a line as Joshua did when he said, “Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve … But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.” (Joshua 24.15)

I challenge you today to take a stand for Christ. Tell your children: “We are not having any pornography or foul-mouthed movies in our home. We are not allowing you to sleep with your girlfriend or boyfriend in this house. We are not allowing blasphemy.” Yes, it will cause a lot of ructions, but your children will thank you one day for standing up for the truth and preserving their lives.
